Koei Tecmo Europe recently announced that the upcoming Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & The White Guardian will break from the gacha-based model of its mobile predecessor, Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator. This exciting news was shared on Twitter (X) on November 26, 2024.

No More Gacha Walls

The absence of a gacha system is a significant departure for the series. Unlike its mobile counterpart, players won't face paywalls hindering progression. Character unlocks and powerful item acquisition will not require in-app purchases.

Furthermore, the new title will offer an offline experience, eliminating the need to interact with the mobile version. The game's official website teases "New protagonists and an original story await in Lantarna," suggesting a shared world but independent narrative and characters.

Platform and Release Details

Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian is slated for release on PS5, PS4, Switch, and Steam in 2025. Pricing and a precise release date remain undisclosed.

A Look Back at the Mobile Gacha System

Atelier Resleriana Won't Have Gacha

Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator, the foundation for the upcoming title, incorporated a gacha system into its traditional Atelier formula of synthesis and turn-based combat. This system, involving the spending of in-game currency to acquire characters and enhance them, proved controversial.

A "spark" system governed character acquisition, awarding medals with each pull. Accumulating enough medals unlocked characters or Memoria (illustration cards). The system differed from a traditional "pity" system, offering no guaranteed drop after a specific number of pulls. This gacha mechanic, released in January 2024 on Steam, Android, and iOS, received mixed reviews, with Steam users particularly critical of its cost.

The shift away from gacha mechanics promises a fresh, more accessible experience for fans of the Atelier series.
