MercurySteam's developers, alumni of Rebel Act Studios, bring a rich heritage to their new project, Blades of Fire. Their previous work on the cult classic, Severance: Blade of Darkness, released in 2001, showcased a groundbreaking combat system that allowed players to sever enemies' limbs, adding a level of brutality and realism to the gameplay. This pioneering approach has significantly influenced the development of their latest title.
In crafting Blades of Fire, the team at MercurySteam also drew inspiration from contemporary action-adventure games. Notably, the cinematic combat and intricate world-building of the God of War reboot by Santa Monica Studio have left a mark on the game. The developers sought to merge fast-paced action with RPG elements, aiming to deliver a captivating and immersive experience to players.
A standout feature of Blades of Fire is its unique weapon crafting system. Players have the opportunity to forge their own blades, with the ability to customize aspects like length, weight, durability, and balance. This level of personalization allows players to adapt their weapons to suit their individual combat styles, enhancing the game's depth and replayability.
The narrative of Blades of Fire centers on the warrior Aran de Lira, who embarks on a perilous journey against a cunning queen with the power to turn metal into stone. Throughout his quest, Aran will encounter 50 different types of enemies, each demanding a strategic and unique approach to overcome.
Set to launch on May 22, 2025, Blades of Fire will be available on PC (Epic Games Store), Xbox Series, and PlayStation 5, promising a thrilling addition to the action-adventure genre.
