The highly anticipated Marvel's Blade reboot has faced numerous setbacks, fueling speculation about its eventual release. However, recent developments offer a renewed sense of optimism.

Five years after initial announcements, the film remains unreleased, leading to considerable criticism of Marvel's handling of the production. Despite the challenges, there's reason for hope. Will the film finally materialize?

Following a string of negative updates, the project is receiving positive momentum. The Hollywood Reporter confirms that production is ongoing, albeit with significant changes. Initially conceived as a period piece, the reboot is now set in the present day. Plot details remain scarce, but a script rewrite is underway, targeted for completion by summer's end, alongside the search for a new director.

Recent reports suggested the project had returned to the drawing board due to dissatisfaction among key personnel. However, the ongoing script revisions and the hunt for a new director signal a commitment to moving forward. The script rewrite, however, may result in substantial plot alterations.

The original concept, a 1920s period piece focusing on Blade's daughter rather than Blade himself, featured Lilith (Mia Goth) as the antagonist, targeting the daughter's blood. The comic book character Lilith has two iterations—Dracula's daughter and the Mother of Demons—and the film's version remained unspecified. The shift to a modern setting drastically alters the narrative possibilities.

Previous directorial changes stemmed from concerns about director-project fit, leading to Bassam Tariq's departure. Star Mahershala Ali, deeply invested in the project and envisioning it as "his Black Panther," personally vetted potential directors, often choosing those without major studio experience. This presented challenges. While Mia Goth remains attached, her role's status is unclear. Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre have exited the project following the 2023 actors' and writers' strike.

The current release date remains November 7, 2025, but this is far from certain.
