Star Wars Hunters Announces Shut Down Just 9 Months After Launch, Steam Release Appears Scrapped

by Aurora Mar 22,2025

Zynga has announced the closure of Star Wars Hunters, just nine months after its release on Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. The free-to-play team-based battle arena game, developed by NaturalMotion, will receive its final content update on April 15th, 2025, with servers shutting down completely on October 1st, 2025. IGN's review awarded the game a 7/10, noting its enjoyable but ultimately short-lived appeal.

Zynga stated that the decision was made after careful consideration and emphasized their commitment to providing updates throughout the transition. To soften the blow, Season 5 will be extended by three weeks, with events and shop bundles re-run. The Ranked Season will also be extended, allowing players more time to reach Kyber 1 rank. The final update will include a new free Hunter, Tuya, and additional in-game content. In-game purchases will be disabled on April 15th. Ranked Mode and all game modes will remain active until the server shutdown.

Notably, plans for a PC version on Steam, announced previously, have been scrapped. The Steam page now indicates the game is unavailable. This marks the end of Zynga's first foray into PC game publishing, a venture that followed the success of Star Wars Hunters on mobile and Switch. While the game's short lifespan is disappointing, numerous other Star Wars games are still in development, including Respawn Entertainment's third Star Wars Jedi title and Bit Reactor's upcoming turn-based tactics game.
