World of Warcraft China is adding two new mounts: the Blazing Royal Fire Hawk and the Golden Ashes of Al'ar, obtainable through special promotions starting January 15th. These stunning mounts are reimagined versions of the incredibly rare Pureblood Fire Hawk and Ashes of Al'ar, previously only obtainable through exceptionally difficult in-game challenges. These new additions highlight the renewed partnership between NetEase and Blizzard, which brought World of Warcraft, Diablo IV, and Overwatch 2 back to the Chinese market after a prolonged absence. The return has been celebrated with various in-game events and rewards, including a Lighforged Gorehowl statue and the unique Xiao Liu pet.

These new mounts offer visually striking reinterpretations of their predecessors. The Blazing Royal Fire Hawk, similar in appearance to the Pureblood Fire Hawk (a rare drop from Ragnaros in Cataclysm's Firelands raid), boasts auspicious clouds within its wings while in flight. These “xiangyun” clouds, symbols of peace, immortality, and good fortune, hold deep cultural significance in China. The Golden Ashes of Al'ar, a resplendent golden version of the original Ashes of Al'ar (dropped by Kael'thas Sunstrider in The Burning Crusade's The Eye), includes a stylish black saddle and flavor text referencing Kael'thas’ iconic line: “The golden Al'ar, beloved pet of Kael'thas Sunstrider, proves that death is merely a setback.”

New Chinese World of Warcraft Promotion Mounts:

  • Blazing Royal Fire Hawk
  • Golden Ashes of Al'ar

The Blazing Royal Fire Hawk is rewarded through a "Treasure Workshop" event, the details of which remain scarce. The Golden Ashes of Al'ar, however, is obtainable from Landro's Loot Box, costing ¥200 (approximately $27 USD). This loot box contains one of eight items, including other highly sought-after prizes such as the X-51 Nether Rocket X-TREME and the Swift Spectral Tiger (an extremely rare mount from the discontinued World of Warcraft Trading Card Game). Players can team up to purchase these loot boxes, earning bonus crates for reaching spending milestones.

Currently, there's no indication these mounts will be released internationally. For now, players outside of China can only admire these magnificent additions to the World of Warcraft collection.
