Halo Studios Embarks on a New Era of Halo Game Development

Microsoft-owned Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries) has announced it's developing several new Halo titles. This announcement also unveiled the studio's rebranding, signaling a fresh start for the franchise.

"Halo's history comprises two distinct chapters: Bungie and 343 Industries," explained Studio Head Pierre Hintze. "Now, we're responding to player demand for more. We're not just improving development efficiency; we're revolutionizing how we create Halo games. This marks the beginning of a new chapter."

The studio will leverage Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) for future Halo installments. UE5's reputation for high-quality graphics and realistic physics makes it an ideal choice. Epic CEO Tim Sweeney tweeted, "Epic is honored that Halo Studios has chosen our tools for their future endeavors!"

Halo's leadership team outlined the franchise's new direction. Hintze acknowledged a previous overemphasis on supporting Halo Infinite, stating that the transition to UE5 will enable the creation of superior Halo games. "Our singular focus is to deliver the best possible Halo games," he emphasized.

This new structure empowers the development team to make key decisions. We're also actively seeking broader player feedback to guide our direction." Van Wyck stressed the importance of player evaluation in shaping the future of the franchise.

Studio Art Director Chris Matthew highlighted UE5's advantages. He explained that elements of the previous engine, Slipspace, are nearly 25 years old. UE5 offers features unavailable in Slipspace, which would have required significant time and resources to replicate.

Halo Studios has begun recruiting for these new projects.
